Featured Wine: 2006 Pomarium Estate Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast
2006 Scallop Shelf Estate Pinot Noir

2006 Pomarium Estate Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast WINEMAKER NOTES: Pomarium (po-mare-ee-um, apple orchard in Latin) harkens to the days when our hill was planted to pears and apples for dried fruit production to feed San Francisco. It was fermented in small, open-top fermenters, moved by gravity, aged for 11 months in 32% new French oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered. The nose is immediately appealing with wild strawberry, cherry and sandalwood aromas coming mainly from the 667, 777 and 115 clones anchored by black licorice and tarragon notes from the Calera selection. With more time in the glass the tension between bright fruit aromas and earthy notes promise much for those with the patience to age the wine a few more years. The mouth is true to the nose, adding hints of blood orange and black tea. The Pomarium has great persistence and length with a clean finish. Production: 1100 cases Varietal: Blend of 5 clones: 667, 777, 115, Calera and 828. Recommended Cellar Time: If you open one on release, decant for at least 45 minutes and cellar the remaining bottles for 3+ years. 2006 Scallop Shelf Estate Pinot Noir WINEMAKER NOTES: When prepping the soil for planting, we discovered ancient scallop and nautilus fossils revealing our hilltop’s residence on the deep ocean floor prior to the formation of the coastal range. The nose is bright with medium concentration. Beguiling aromas of Serrano ham (cured meat) and lavender wrap around cherry core with a hint of orange peel coming mainly from the 44% concentration of Pommard. The palet opens with a high tone pomegranate note harnessed by dried cherry, forest floor and black walnut flavors. The Scallop Shelf has medium weight and structure from soft, silky tannins, excellent acidity and fruit concentration, but is not fat or fleshy. The finish is very long. The Scallop Shelf is built to last and will fill in and gain cohesion as mature aromas develop with bottle age. Production: 950 cases Clones: 44% Pommard , 20% 777, 19% 115, 10% Swan, 5% Mt. Eden, 2% 828 Recommended Cellar Time: If you must drink now, decant for 45 minutes and cellar the remainder for at least 3—5 years.

2005 Late Harvest Gewürztraminer

WINEMAKER NOTES: Here is a wine with incredible depth and structure along with great fruit and more pronounced spice. As the saying goes, “Drink no wine before its time”, and this is a vintage that has been well worth the wait. Our 2003 Syrah is more of a Rhone-style with bigger, riper fruit that really reflects the vintage. Beautiful dark aromas of dried cherries, hyacinth, brown sugar, nutmeg and clove on the nose. The mouth shows bright cherry flavors integrated with coffee bean, pomegranate and plum followed by a long finish laced with cinnamon. Varietals: 40% Les Collines Vineyard, 38% Bouchey Vineyard, 13% Milbrandt, 5% Stonetree Recommended Cellar Time: Drink now through 2013. WINEMAKER NOTES: The nose on this beautiful wine is alive with a bounty of aromas. Floral nuances of orange blossoms and rose petals fill your senses, followed by peach, pear, lychee and lemon grass. Wonderful flavors of honeydew and apricot explode on the palate while sweet undertones of cotton candy and almonds provide a lingering finish. Our Late Harvest Gewürztraminer has the pretty color of pale straw with gold nuances. Its sweetness, delicately balanced by a crisp acidity, makes it a wonderful food wine. Varietal: 100% Gewürztraminer Recommended Cellar Time: Drink now through 2013.
